We hope you have been enjoying your holidays in your custom-built home by Turnkey Homes, LLC! If you are not currently residing in a Turnkey home, 2021 could be your year to move in. While 2020 has been odd and difficult for most everyone, there are still many things to give thanks for at the end of the year. Although turning the calendar to January 1st gives us a fresh start, the unfortunate reality is that the Covid-19 pandemic is not yet over. With travel being limited, holiday gatherings and celebrations smaller this year, you may not be feeling too optimistic about 2021 just yet. So, as you put away the holiday decorations and reflect on 2020, here are a few activities to help you create a positive attitude and mindset.

Before your neighbors start removing their holiday lights and decorations, take a moment to appreciate the art and beauty of each decorated house. Enjoy how each neighbor expressed their own taste and style in the way they decorated their home. If you decorated the outside of your home, perhaps using the suggestions from our November blog, be sure to take a moment to appreciate your own home’s holiday beauty. Take a few photos of your decorated home to keep as a memory of this year’s holiday season.

Look for things for which you can be thankful. They don’t have to be big things; they can be as simple as having a quiet moment to enjoy your favorite coffee in the morning, a warm home during a cold Wisconsin winter storm, or finally finding a canister of disinfectant wipes at the store. Focusing your thoughts on the positive moments that happen in everyday life will help you create a positive attitude to start the new year.

It’s winter in Wisconsin, so it’s cold and snowing. But don’t stay inside the whole season. Bundle up and get outside, even if only for a short time. Take a walk and enjoy the beauty of the snow. Place a few flakes in your hand and appreciate the fantastic wonder of how every snowflake is unique. Now is when you can appreciate the sturdy construction of your Turnkey Homes’ roof to defend against the snow and ice. Since you performed the tasks in our October blog to prepare your home for the Wisconsin winter, you can feel at ease knowing that your home is ready for the season.

When you are back indoors and facing the task of putting away the holiday decorations, here’s a fun activity to involve the whole family. For each ornament and decoration you put away in its box, say out loud one good thing that has happened in 2020 for which you are thankful. If your family members are competitive, see who can name the most items. Vote on the best one and give out an award such as a night off from having to do the dishes or a week off from taking out the trash. Have someone write down each one that is said, and then hang the list on the refrigerator during January as a reminder of all the wonderful things that can happen in a year.

Lastly, create a summer feeling inside your home during the winter months. On your next trip to the grocery store, stop in the flower department and consider bringing home a potted plant or an assortment of colorful flowers. Plants and flowers bring a little cheer to a dreary day. When given as a gift to a loved one, it brings both the giver and receiver joy.
